Identity

I've been recently signing my email letters with 4 different names:
Santiago
Iago
Trowa
Bardolph

There are times in which I would forget my real name since I've been known by so many nicknames. It gets surreal after a while.

I usually don't overlap mine so much in time, although some people have started calling me [livejournal.com profile] lillibet, which is kind of fun. I've had about a dozen different use-names in my life--having two very flexible names makes it easy to switch identities with each new group of people--and there are still people who call me one of the old ones. That's always fun and nostalgic for me--I don't mind at all--although at this point I've been introducing myself as "Elizabeth" for so long that it seems somewhat strange to hear "Lee" again, much less one of the even older ones. Then there are the personal nicknames that people have bestowed upon me, that I treasure.

As long as you remember who you are, names are only handles, not leashes ;)

Your real name is my favorite, when I'm not calling you sweetie or other favorite pet names. :-}

With both "Muffy" and "Jo" as well as the various derivatives that my many friends (and possibly a few enemies) come up with, I can totally relate. Which one is your "real" name?
