I'll post soon about a clothing swap, a massage party, and pretty ladies. In the meantime
9:40am: Thursday, May 19
Looks like seven states this time :)
Massachusetts
New York
Florida
Utah
Maryland
Wyoming
and now Montana
I can see why people keep track. Money is running tight. Hopefully, it will hold for the next 12 days.
10:40am:
I've seen the bored look of a woman's eyes, but I've never seen the bored look of a buffalo's eyes. This holds true for elk. The plan calls for Mammoth Springs and then Old Faithful on the way back. Apparently, Roosevelt Mt. is there. The buffalo are no longer shy here.
12:35pm:
Just took a modest hike near the Norris Geyser. Saw the Steamboat Geyser. Almost like a miniature version of Old Faithful. The catch phrase should be changed from "more cowbells" to "more buffaloes".
12:55pm:
Traffic is picking up as the sun shines finally. Still the off-season, so it's not crowded. I am now viewing what can be best described as a forest's graveyard. Acres of dead trees with fresh trees growing beside the logs. Fire? Disease? Can't tell, but it was widespread.
1:50pm:
Orange Spring Mound where there are many sunshowers
2:07pm:
Just passed Lava Creek. We are near the Northern Entrance. Now, tghe adult male elk appear with their antlers that look plush.
3:00pm:
Saw my first mountain lion in the wild. Needed a telescope to view it dormant in Calcite Springs. Approaching Tower Fall. The weather is starting to seriously warm up.
3:15pm:
The trip to Old Faithful will be interesting. We are in the NE region near Roosevelt, heading to Mammoth. We'll be lucky to make it there by 5pm.
7:40pm:
Wow! There's heading stories about Old Faithful, and then there's actually seeing the eruption up close at the boardwalk My camera runs out of batteries at the WORST TIME!! I was able to capture the first minute of Old Faithful's gush before I lost power. But the site was amazing. There was a Chinese Spring and a Beehive Geyser nearby.
We had dinner at the lodge inn where I had a BBQ pull pork sandwich and Old Faithful Ale. Sadly, no wings. They weren't kidding when they said that alcoholic affects are doubled at high altitudes. As we are heading back, I am amazed that the southern section of the park is snow-capped whereas the northern part is very warm. Hopefully, we can make it back before sundown. The last thing we need is nighttime mountain driving.
8:10pm:
Look, a rainbow!
8:45pm:
Never been pulled over before. Going 20+ mph above the speed limit is a no-no, especially with the wildlife. Fortunately, we had just a warning and a reminder that we are of the 0.01% to actually see a mountain lion. We were so lucky today.
